To affect the quality of the day that is  the highest of acts.

The Courtesy rules of Blindness

The next time you are in the company of a blind person remember the following:

I am an ordinary person, just blind.

You don't need to raise your voice or address me as if I were a child. Don't ask my spouse if I want something -- ask me.

Let me decide if I need help. Don't grab my arm; let me take yours.

Speak when you enter a room. Tell me who's in the room including the pets.

I use the word see too. Don't avoid the use.

Talk about subjects like you would to anyone else.

Show me where the bathroom is, light switch, etc.

Watch those cupboard doors being open along with doors ajar.

I will not have trouble at the table. But if you must you can tell me where the items are. Think of the area in front of me as a clock. Straight ahead being 12:00; to the right 3:00, etc.

I rely on my other senses more now -- they didn't improve I just developed them more.
